This page and the links to the right contain important information about Judge Harjani’s case management procedures. These policies and rules have been designed to facilitate the prompt, efficient, and equitable disposition of civil cases. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with these procedures as well as those in the Local Rules. When there is a conflict, please follow the procedures outlined here.
Communications with Chambers for case related matters:
The Court strongly prefers email communication with the courtroom deputy, with a copy to opposing counsel. Counsel may jointly contact the courtroom deputy at lynette_santiago@ilnd.uscourts.gov.
Communications with Chambers for non-case related matters:
Please send an email to Chambers_Harjani@ilnd.uscourts.gov.
In all cases assigned to Judge Harjani’s calendar from the calendar of another judge, an order will follow with further direction but all previously set discovery deadlines and briefing schedules remain intact. Unless otherwise directed, the Court does not require a joint status report to be filed for a reassigned case. The Court will advise the parties if further action is required.
Motions should not be noticed for presentment. Upon the filing of a contested motion, the Court will enter a minute order in due course either setting a motion hearing, setting a briefing schedule, or otherwise providing further direction to the parties.
Before filing a motion, the movant's counsel must ask opposing counsel whether there is an objection to the motion. Motions that are agreed or unopposed MUST include "agreed" or "unopposed" in the title of the motion.
For further guidance on civil motion practice, please review the Court's Case Management Procedures under "Civil Motion Practice and Memoranda of Law," "Motions to Dismiss," and "Motion for Summary Judgment."
Unless otherwise requested by the Court, courtesy copies are not required, with the exception of motions for summary judgment and accompanying Local Rule 56.1 statements and exhibits. Those materials shall be tabbed and bound (e.g., binder or spiral bound). Courtesy copies should be delivered to Judge Harjani’s courtroom deputy Lynette Santiago in Room 1932 within 24 hours of the filing. Courtesy copies should include the printed CM/ECF header at the top of every page.
