Request for Postponement or Permanent Excuse
If you are unable to appear for jury service dates, please submit a written request for postponement/excuse to the Jury Department within (10) business days upon receipt of the summons. Any postponement is limited to a maximum of (6) months.
The written request must be from you and not your employer. Your employer may submit a separate request to support your postponement/excuse. A request due to a medical condition must be accompanied a doctor’s statement indicating if the condition is either temporary or permanent.
You are unable to be postponed or excused on your jury service reporting date. To contact someone in the Jury Department, you may call at (312) 435-5684 from 8:30A.M. to 4:30P.M. Monday through Friday or email: jury_ilnd@ilnd.uscourts.gov
If you provided a written request for postponement/excuse, please verify if it was approved through the automated system 1(800) 572-4210 (Chicago only). Please have your summons available when calling the automated system.
