RULES 1.00 To 1.09 ORGANIZATION OF THE COURT


Rule 1.03 The Chief Judge And Acting Chief Judge

A. Chief Judge and Acting Chief Judge

The designation of chief judge shall be made in accordance with Section 136 of Title 28 of the United States Code. The designation of acting chief judge shall be made in accordance with Section 136(a) of said Title. The Acting Chief Judge shall assume the duties and responsibilities of the Chief Judge whenever the latter is not present in the District, or is unable to perform his/her duties, or as designated by the Chief Judge.

B. Duties and Responsibilities of the Chief Judge

The chief judge shall act as Executive Officer of the Court and shall have precedence and preside at any meetings of the judges of the Court which he/she attends. He/she shall act on behalf of the Court and its Executive Committee in all matters in which he/she is directed by the Court and in such matters as are not properly brought before the emergency judge. All matters pertaining to grand juries shall be heard by the chief judge.

C. Duties and Responsibilities of the Acting Chief Judge

The acting chief judge shall assume the duties and responsibilities of the chief judge whenever the latter is temporarily unable to perform his/ her duties or is designated by the chief judge.
