1988 Retained by 78% of those voting, for a second 10-year term as Justice of the Illinois Appellate Court, Second Judicial District.

1987-88 Presiding Justice of the Illinois Appellate Court, Second Judicial District.

1987-88 Executive Committee, Committee of 50. (Constitutionally established committee to consider and recommend whether a new Illinois Constitutional Convention should be convened.)

1978-89 Justice of the Illinois Appellate Court, Second Judicial District. Elected in November 1978.

1977-78 Deputy Attorney General of Illinois. Argued before the United States Supreme Court.

1977 Admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States.

1973-77 Comptroller of the State of Illinois. Illinois' first State Comptroller. Established the first statewide uniform accounting system.
