  • 1984 - 1991 - Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, elected in November 1984 by the voters of Cook County outside the city of Chicago.

Supervising Judge of the Chicago Traffic Court, 1989 - 1991.

  • 1981-1984 - Deputy Secretary of State of Illinois to Secretary of State Jim Edgar. This position was the number three ranking office in an agency of 3,700 employees with an annual administrative budget of about $200 million.

  • 1977-1980 - Partner in law firm of Burditt and Calkins, 135 South LaSalle Street, Chicago, Illinois. My practice included banking law, real estate, general litigation in both Federal and State courts, probate, estate planning, domestic relations, property taxation, corporate law and bankruptcy.

  • 1972-1976 - Associate in the law firm of Burditt and Calkins.

  • 1970-1972 - Administrative Assistant to Henry J. Hyde, Majority Leader of the Illinois House of Representatives.

Past Member of the Board of Directors of Harvard Club of Chicago and currently an interviewer for the Harvard Club's Schools Committee interviewing high school students who apply to Harvard.

EDUCATION

University of Illinois Legislative Staff Internship program, 1970-1971.

University of Illinois College of Law J.D. in 1970; Editor-in-Chief of the student newspaper, the Caveat; first place winner in the college's moot court competition; and a member of the college's interscholastic moot court team.

Harvard University, B.A. cum laude in Government in 1967; varsity track and field captain; co-holder of the University 100-yard dash record (still stands!), Varsity Club Hall of Fame; and worked with Phillip Brooks House juvenile delinquent program.
